The Heat Retreat runs a wood-fired barrel sauna at Cahir Park AFC, with four cold plunges, including two repurposed oak whiskey barrels, and a cold shower under a 200-year-old beech tree. There's a warm welcome from the two owners and on-site changing facilities that make it an easy, no-fuss visit.

“The sauna is small but was nice and hot. The plunge pool was also small but I like the stainless steel. Changing rooms were very small and awkward. For €15 it was fine but now I see the price increase, although minimum (€1) puts me off returning when I can go to a place much larger and more comfortably with a jacuzzi for €15. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my experience there and the young guy in charge was very friendly and polite..”
