Run by Sláinte Saunas, The Wild Atlantic Sauna is a custom-built wood-fired sauna on Old Head Beach outside Louisburgh, one of a small number of Sláinte sites bringing traditional sauna heat to the Mayo coast.

“Fantastic location. But, but how the sauna experience is ran is very disorganised , ive been here twice, and both times the sauna has been cold, lots of people constantly in and out. I feel if there was more facilitation from those running the sauna it could be a better experience for everyone”

“Last night was our second time at this sauna at old head we had been here in November 25 as well. In november they had an 6/8 seater sauna which has since been replaced by a larger 14 seater version. This Sauna is in a great location and has great views of the sea a nice changing area and a nice relaxation area In November the heat in the sauna was amazing it was roasting hot and from the moment we went in we were well hot and getting the experience we liked. Last night however was a different story the sauna did not feel hot and despite repeatedly using water over the time we were ther to draw the heat from the stones the room was not holding the heat, the fire is fed using compressed wood briquttes not real wood, they burn down quickly and have no residual or lasting heat the attendant replenished the fire box 3 times in the session For proper wood fired sauna real wood hard wood needs to be used its not just about the heat but the smell of the wood the aromas and the lasting heat that proper wood holds. The floor is also starting to fail which doesnt bode great for a unit that is less than 6 months old It has vinyl tiles that are already peeling off the floor. theres a lot of improvement needed here to bring this up to standard, these beachside saunas are a wonderfull addition but they are a premium priced experience and should deliver with a premium quality experience”
