Right on the lake shore at Mountshannon, Birchwood Sauna is run by Anna, who rounds out the heat with infused water, homemade scrubs, energy balls and a ginger-and-lemon drink to go with the cold dip in the lake afterwards. It's the thoughtful little extras, as much as the sauna itself, that keep regulars coming back.

“I’ve been beyond lucky to have experienced three saunas at Anna’s Birchwood Sauna in the short time I’ve been staying in the Mountshannon area. Anna’s thought of every detail: from the sauna towels, to the fragranced water that Anna puts on the coals at the end of the session, to the different scrubs that had been handmade by her, to the delicious homemade plant-based protein balls to finish off the experience. The experience is a sauna and spa experience on the banks of the beautiful lake which is perfect for the cold dips. The full moon session was incredible with a built fire and tea and some snacks. My friends and I pulled the boat in at Mountshannon - it was great to get to swim in the lake and then hop back into the lovely warm sauna.
