Saunas in Dublin

Dublin swims all year, and the saunas followed the swimmers. From the Forty Foot at Sandycove and the Vico at Killiney to Portrane, Donabate and Rush on the north coast, the capital's year-round dippers now have heat waiting on the shore. The city has caught up too, with saunas in Rathmines, Inchicore, Ballsbridge, Grangegorman and Templeogue, and out in Dundrum, Sandyford, Tallaght and Palmerstown on the Liffey. Almost every sauna listed here has a cold plunge, and most have changing areas and showers.

The south coast is the classic run: Sandycove, Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock, Sallynoggin and Killiney Beach. North of the city there are saunas at Sutton, Donabate, Portrane, Rush and Swords, and one near the airport at Cloghran. Up in the Dublin Mountains at Glencullen there is an Irish sweat house, the older tradition the modern barrel sauna grew out of. Wood-fired and barrel saunas dominate, with a couple of mobile saunas and a beach sauna in the mix. Wicklow, Kildare and Meath border the county and are all within an hour.
